About the route
Varkala is around 50 km north of Thiruvananthapuram on the coastal road, about an hour and a half depending on how the traffic runs through Attingal. The last stretch narrows as you approach the cliff, and several guesthouses can only be reached on foot from the Helipad or North Cliff parking areas — we'll tell you which applies before you travel.

Best time & tips
November to March is the driest and busiest window. Varkala is also a natural stop between Trivandrum and Alleppey, so if you're travelling north it's often cheaper to book the whole leg as one journey rather than two separate transfers.
